Peer Review / Independent Medical Examinations
Bellevue Total Health offers Independent Medical Examinations which means a doctor will examine a patient whom they have not previously seen. IMEs are done to try and foresee future medical care as well as pin point the liability and cause involved. This service can be requested by an employer or insurance carrier to see if an individual has reached maximum benefit from their treatment.
We also provide peer paper reviews of workers compensation cases. This service is usually requested by the workers compensation insurance carrier, a case manager, or the employer may request a review through their insurance carrier. This service is done to determine the appropriateness of care and to expedite the treatment process. Standards of care are referenced to support the reviewer’s opinion or, when applicable, the treating doctor’s treatment.
Benefits of Record Reviews and Independent Medical Examinations:
- Expedites decision-making regarding treatment, e.g. MRI, orthopedic consult, neurosurgical consult, PT referral, etc.
- Opens discussion between treating doctor and workers compensation carrier.
- May reduce treatment costs.
